I went home for the long Independence Day weekend, but now I’m back. I had about a thousand blog posts to browse, and they have caused the generation of a Random Stuff post. So, here goes:
- A post by Ben at Millenial Star tells of his first week of missionary-hood. And mentions Catholics. Excerpt:
“After church, we’re going to go perform an exorcism.”
“… Do we do that often?” I asked, racking my brains in vain for the white handbook instructions on exorcism.
“Nope. First time.”
After having lived in a new apartment for a few months, and sensing a dark spirit there, the Catholic parents of three small children had called on their priest to come perform an exorcism.
“We don’t do that anymore. Call the Mormons,” he had replied, whence our phone call.
Heh.
- Membership numbers in the LDS news: 12.5 million worldwide.
- This post at Pontifications mentions Hans Urs von Balthasar a lot. This interests me because I’m just starting to read The Glory of the Lord. I have no prior experience with von Balthasar, so I’m glad to see most people have a favorable opinion of his work. After all, these books are going to take me several year to finish…
- It’s been a fun couple of weeks to be a Royals fan. They’ve been in almost every game they’ve played, and actually won most of them, including a series against the Twins and a road series against the Cardinals. WOO!
Fortunately, the Hated All-Star Break is coming up, nicely timed to destroy the Royals’ momentum, and replace three perfectly good baseball days with stupid irrelevant crap. I hate the All-Star Break.
What I don’t hate is David Christopher DeJesus. Lately he’s been absolutely on fire. He just broke an 11-game hitting streak, during which he was 24 for 49 with seven doubles and two home runs. And, let’s be honest, he’s easy on the eyes, too.
